About
Hi, I'm Tim Gregg, the originator and principal "storyteller" for the Brazos Valley Legacy Project. Since moving to the Bryan/College Station area in 2017, I've had the pleasure to tell a number of stories in the books I've written for a variety of clients and on a variety of subjects. In almost every story I've told, I've preserved the significance of someone's idea, action or contribution to a cause greater than themselves. In a sense, each story has played a part in defining someone's legacy.
Legacy matters. It matters to companies. It matters to families. It matters to individuals. In a real way, our legacy is a representation of who we are and what we stand for. And make no mistake, legacies are as much for the living as they are for those who came before us.
The importance of legacy was revealed to me when I sat my father–to my right in the photo above–in front of a video camera and asked him to talk about his life. I did it so he could see what I did for a living. At the time, I had recently left the corporate marketing world to become a freelance video producer. The camera was my means to tell stories. Being "old school" and a blue-collar worker for nearly a half century, Dad did not quite grasp the concept of being an "entrepreneur."
With my camera pointed in his direction–in the living room of his and my mother's home–I asked Dad to tell me about his childhood. An hour later, when we finally finished, I had learned much about my father that I had not known before. We both enjoyed the experience immensely, and I promised to come back soon and "continue the conversation."
A few weeks later, I recored his stories about his time in the Army during World War II, thus opening my eyes to a part of his past I knew surprisingly little about. When we finished, I vowed to do one more interview: stories about my father's experiences raising his only child. Me.
He died before I could get that done.
And thus was born my interest in and passion for preserving legacies through stories told and shared with others.
Let me preserve a part of your legacy. Let's preserve a part of your life story in which a significant challenge was faced an overcome. And, let's share that experience and that story with someone else who could use help in overcoming their own challenging circumstances.
Become a contributor. Become a friend. Make a difference in someone else's life, and reflect on the difference you've made in your own life.
